Somehow, somewhere saltwater has brought us all to this exact place and point in our lives. From conquering to being conquered - exploring to being found - voyaging and Wayfinding, seafaring and headhunting. The mixing of cultures and races, food and traditions and the universal love of the sea. Saltwater binds us all as members of the same Club...
Before time, SALTWATER had always been the source of bringing cultures together through voyages of discovery, opportunities, new frontiers, health and harmony. It has also bought disharmony, displacement and disagreement.
From the days of ancient seafarers and conquerors, explorers and resource raiders, the voyaging canoe, tall ship, pearling lugger and missionary schooner, all utilised the sea as the single connector between voyaging, the vessel, wind and tide and the ultimate success (and failure) of First Nation's people throughout the Pacific.
For Indigenous peoples of the South Pacific including Australian Aboriginals, Torres Strait Islanders, Australian South Sea Islanders, and our Polynesian and Melanesian neighbours, it is saltwater that still provides life’s wants and needs including health, wealth, family, food, transport, identity and community. It surrounds who we are!
We are of course on the WORLD'S LARGEST ISLAND and surrounded by saltwater that has also kept our boarders unique in what we share and what we don't. We acknowledge our connection to each other through the fundamental currency we all share... where we all belong - SALTWATER
