What a beautiful Whitsunday week for the Derwent Hunter
We’ve had the most lovely sunny days with temperatures in the mid-20’s, and even at night, it’s only barely dropping below 20 degrees! Winter? What winter? This is one of the many reasons we love the Whitsundays. It’s warm all year round. To top that off the water temperature is also a glorious 22 degrees = perfect swimming weather.
Our guests haven’t even been wearing wetsuits. Just watch the sunburn, and make sure you bring sunscreen and a hat.
We’ve been visited by turtles again, and our customers have loved the beautiful sailing conditions.
Romance of sail
This week we were blessed with an engagement taking place on board the ship.
The lovely Michael proposed to his charming girlfriend Emma, who of course said yes!
What a romantic proposal – sailing around the beautiful Whitsunday islands with stops at secluded island beaches. Well done Michael, and congratulations to the happy couple!
This has been recorded in the Ship’s Log. Hopefully you will see the Derwent Hunter again one day, perhaps for an anniversary, or to show the future children/grandchildren!
Even our crew have been getting a little cheeky in this delightful weather. Keeping our guests entertained and having fun is an important part of the day.
Did you know Derwent Hunter holds Advanced Ecotourism accreditation?
In order to maintain it, we get audited every few years. We were visited this week by an auditor, and we spent a few hours discussing our operation and everything we do, and are proud to say we have maintained our Advanced Ecotourism accreditation.

This week’s favourite photos
We just love these romantic black and white portraits of our beautiful ship. The dark timber and the white sails are perfect for black and white photography.
Aren’t they striking!
